I offer personalized acoustic and electric guitar lessons in school district alternative programs. I have worked in public, private, and homeschool classes including the Spokane Public Schools, Mead School District, Deer Park School District, and Mary Walker School District (Springdale). I offer a variety of classes and can differentiate for any class of students.
Beginning Guitar Fundamentals Class
Welcome to Guitar Fundamentals! I look forward to teaching students the fundamentals of guitar playing. Students will learn skills such as sight reading and interpretation, music theory, basic chording, melody, and fundamentals through fingerstyle and flat-picking techniques. Guitar tabs will also be used as a form of writing/ear training. These skills will allow students to play all styles such as Classical, Spanish, Flamenco, Folk, Country, Blues, Jazz, Rock, etc.
Advanced Classes
Students in this class should be enthused about playing the guitar and be on a regular practice schedule. Students will elaborate on sight reading music theory through chord scale relationships and will also study 1,4,5 Blues and 2,5,1 Jazz progressions. Guitar tabs will also be used as a form of writing/ear training. Skills learned in this class will apply to all styles such as Classical, Spanish, Flamenco, Folk, Country, Blues, Jazz, Rock, etc.
Jam Class
This is a class for the guitar enthusiast, and students joining should have 2+ years of guitar experience as they will apply all skills learned in previous classes. Students will focus on improvisational techniques using chord-scale relationships and will get into ear training through the use of radio songs, Blues 1,4,5 progressions, Jazz 2,5,1 progressions and rock progressions. Guitar tablature will be used for writing. Skills achieved in this class will apply to all styles. Because this is a spontaneous class, no books are necessary. Students will trade solos so they should come with a creative attitude and eagerness to play. It is anticipated that students will enjoy the class, the creation of music, and the guitar itself.
